The song combines contemporary R&B elements with Afro-inspired rhythms and samba influences, marking a shift towards a more rhythm-driven sound for the Vaal-born musician.
According to Ben September, the track examines the challenges of expressing love and intention in relationships.
“‘Samba’ is about trying to love someone in your own way, even when it’s not always received like that,” he said. “It’s about intention, effort, and the vulnerability that comes with putting your feelings out there.
“The process started with the feeling of the beat,” he said. “Once that energy was there, everything else followed. It was about letting the song take shape on its own.”
Ben September also said incorporating his mother tongue into the songwriting process presented challenges during the development of the track.
“Having to write in my mother tongue was a bit of a challenge too but I got it right after a few attempts,” he said.
