The track has gained significant traction on TikTok, where it has been used in more than 80 000 creations, marking a breakthrough moment for the emerging producer.
‘Ngeke’ blends elements of amapiano and gqom, combining down-tempo rhythms with heavy log drums and vocal-driven melodies. Ntsako XVI describes the sound as part of a new musical direction he refers to as “Nyakanyaka”.
“The song is a bouncy, groovy down tempo amapiano with catchy vocals, infused with dance and gqom elements and very strong log drum,” he said.
The production draws influence from hardcore amapiano, darker electronic sounds and tribal-inspired percussion. According to Ntsako XVI, the song was designed with dancefloor appeal in mind while maintaining a connection to underground club culture.
The release also represents a shift in his creative approach. While he has largely been associated with instrumental productions, ‘Ngeke’ places stronger emphasis on vocals.
“It’s different cause I mostly work with instrumentals but the vocals gave it a different feel and it made it more bouncy,” he said.
Ntsako XVI is part of a growing group of younger producers contributing to the continued evolution of South African amapiano. He has indicated that further releases and collaborations are planned later this year as he continues to develop his sound.
