Apple Music has announced a new group of African artists selected for its Up Next artist development programme, highlighting emerging talent from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana and East Africa.
Nigerian artist Amma.
The latest cohort includes South African indie trio FREDDY L, Nigerian R&B singer Amma, Ghanaian artist RCee and Tanzanian gospel performer Moses Luka.
The Up Next programme, curated by Apple Music editors, aims to identify and promote emerging artists with potential for wider international recognition.
FREDDY L have gained attention in South Africa’s alternative music scene with their debut album Roadside Assistance, which combines elements of indie and alternative rock. The project explores themes such as identity, relationships and personal growth.
In Nigeria, Amma has built a following with her R&B releases, including the two-track project To What We Were. Her work focuses on emotionally driven songwriting, with an emphasis on introspection and personal experience. She is currently preparing a forthcoming extended play.
RCee, from Ghana, represents a younger generation of artists blending Afrobeats, Highlife and Afro-fusion. His debut EP How Did We Get Here? features tracks including Knees & Bend, Amazing and Blessings, and addresses themes of ambition, love and self-development. He has since released additional singles such as ‘Agenda’ and ‘Atiaa’.
In East Africa, Moses Luka has emerged in the gospel genre following his win at Bongo Star Search 2025. His self-titled EP incorporates contemporary production with traditional African musical elements, focusing on themes of faith, resilience and gratitude.
Apple Music said the selected artists reflect a range of styles and cultural influences across the continent, with the programme continuing to operate without genre restrictions.
The Up Next initiative has previously featured a range of international acts and is intended to support artists through editorial promotion and playlist inclusion, including placement on the platform’s global Up Next playlist.
