Ghettorus
Bio
Born Gugulethu Cashious Rambau, the artist known as Ghettorus also called “de alpha male” is steadily carving out a distinct identity within South Africa’s evolving music landscape. His stage name reflects both his upbringing and pride in his origins: “Ghetto” representing his roots, and “Rus” paying homage to Vosloorus, a township in Katlehong within the Ekurhuleni region—an area often celebrated for its deep cultural influence and vibrant soundscape.
Recognised for his signature chant, “Wena thula buka lama records ngizowa phula,” Ghettorus blends bold confidence with an unmistakable township flair. His artistry is deeply rooted in the rhythms of African drums and bass-heavy sounds, drawing inspiration from genres such as Kwaito, Hip-Hop, R&B and Gospel. This fusion gives his music a smooth yet energetic feel, complemented by witty punchlines and an uplifting, conscious edge.
Ghettorus’ journey into music began in 2012 with the release of his debut single, “Sgubhu Sama Pantsula.” The track gained traction on local radio stations and reached listeners across global streaming platforms, marking the beginning of a career that has now spanned over a decade.
Beyond music, Ghettorus is also a creative entrepreneur. He is the founder of Sway Fashions, a clothing brand that reflects his style and cultural influence, as well as Sway Visuals, where he works as a photographer and videographer. Expanding his footprint in the industry, he launched Sway Records in 2022, positioning himself not only as an artist but also as a contributor to the growth of independent music.
That same year, he released two projects: “Kwaaihop Vol. 1” in September, a four-track EP rooted in Kwaito and Kasi rap, followed by “Kwaaiyanos Vol. 1” in December, which introduced elements of Amapiano into his sound. In 2023, he dropped the single “Palesa,” available across major digital platforms including Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube, further expanding his reach.
Continuing his momentum, Ghettorus released “Kwaaiyanos Vol. 2,” a project that has performed strongly on YouTube, particularly through the Kwaaiyanos Extreme Extrovert Studio Session visuals produced by Sway Visuals in collaboration with Photoking Pictures.
Looking ahead to 2026, Ghettorus is preparing to release a music video for “GOAT Ghost,” promising high quality, visually striking content. He is also set to drop a double-sided EP, featuring collaborations with producer Thebza 101 on Side A and artist-producer Chuk Zero on Side B. Each project, he notes, will be supported by accompanying visuals, reinforcing his commitment to delivering a complete creative experience.
Raised in a township environment that shaped both his perspective and resilience, Ghettorus embraces a philosophy rooted in growth and determination. He often reflects on the idea that while one may not choose the circumstances they are born into, they have the power to define their future.
From a passionate listener to a fully realised artist and entrepreneur, Ghettorus continues to blaze his own trail bringing an authentic, township inspired sound to a broader audience while building a legacy that extends beyond music.
