SA artists lead return of Kasi Kulture campaign celebrating township creativity
Township culture is set to take centre stage again with the return of Kasi Kulture, a campaign led by Skipper Bar that places a renewed focus on artists shaping contemporary township identity.
South African artist Kid X is part of the campaign.
The second edition of the initiative, titled Kasi Kulture 2.0, will feature South African artists Kid X, Masterpiece YVK and Umtanakubo. The campaign centres on their role in reflecting and influencing township culture through music and broader creative expression.
According to organisers, the campaign aims to highlight how artists continue to shape trends emerging from township communities, particularly in music and fashion. The selected artists are expected to feature in digital storytelling content and public-facing cultural conversations linked to the campaign.
Skipper Bar brand manager Tevin Sebela said township culture remains a key driver of cultural trends in South Africa.
“Township culture has always been one of the biggest drivers of trends in South Africa,” he said. “With Kasi Kulture, we want to celebrate that authenticity and show love to the communities that continue to inspire music, fashion, and lifestyle across the country.”
The campaign also invites public participation, encouraging audiences to share their own interpretations of township culture online. Contributions are expected to focus on everyday experiences, including style, work and community identity.
Kasi Kulture was first introduced as a platform to document and celebrate township life. Its second edition expands on this by placing greater emphasis on artists as cultural ambassadors, positioning their work as both a reflection of and influence on township narratives.
Organisers say the initiative will continue to foreground stories rooted in township communities, where music and creative expression remain central to cultural development.
