The episode will be hosted by Ebro Darden, the platform’s Global Editorial head of hip hop and R&B, alongside Nandi Madida, host of Africa Now Radio.
The single blends contemporary African-inspired rhythms with hip-hop lyricism, with Tuff King delivering reflective verses while Phyno contributes his signature Igbo rap style. According to the programme notes, the track explores themes of admiration, emotional vulnerability and the complexities of romantic relationships, while also reflecting on ambition, displacement and life lived across different cultural spaces.
In addition to Tuff King’s release, the Rap Life Africa segment will also spotlight ‘Mi Amor’ by Nasty C from his expanded project Free (Deluxe), which reimagines material from his earlier album Free through global remixes and reinterpretations. Another track featured on the programme is “BRACE”, a collaboration by G-TECH 2bit, Mochen and Loatinover Pounds featuring Slim Dumpie, which draws on the energetic Pitori hip hop sound associated with Pretoria.
Born King David Israel in Nigeria’s “042” region, Tuff King has built an international following through his work as a rapper, singer, songwriter and executive producer. His debut album Black Sheepizeen: The 13th Disciple included tracks such as ‘Nkemakonam’ and ‘Suppressed Desires’, which helped establish his reputation for introspective lyricism and narrative-driven songwriting.
Speaking about his inclusion on the Rap Life Africa cover, Tuff King said: “Being on the Rap Life Africa cover is a full circle moment. Black Sheepizen was never just an album, it was my truth, my testimony. To have that story recognised at this level means the world. The black sheep always finds its way home.”
Rap Life Africa serves as a regional extension of Apple Music’s flagship hip-hop playlist, Rap Life, highlighting new releases and artists from across the African hip hop scene.
