Downtown Music Publishing Africa to host publishing masterclass in Harare
Downtown Music Publishing Africa (SA) will hold a music publishing masterclass on 5 March 2026 in Harare, focusing on monetising music and collecting royalties through publishing and sync licensing.
The masterclass will be led by Downtown Music Publishing Africa head of A&R Kifiloe Molefe (pictured).
The session will take place at The Venue in Avondale, Zimbabwe, as part of Creative Economy Week. It is being organised in collaboration with Kay Media Africa and the British Council.
The masterclass will be led by Downtown Music Publishing Africa head of A&R Kifiloe Molefe featuring Taro Chaniwa (moderator), Takudzwa Dzinoreva (creative director), Daviaa (composer and DJ), Binta Yade (artist) and Akachi Igboko (A&R manager). It will examine rights management, royalty collection and strategies for building sustainable careers in the global music industry.
In a statement, Downtown Music Publishing Africa said its A&R manager would lead the session in partnership with Kay Media Africa and the British Council. The company stated that the masterclass would “unpack the business of music publishing, from rights management and royalties to building sustainable careers in today’s global music ecosystem”.
The organisation added that, as Africa’s creative economy continues to expand, such discussions are important in equipping artists, songwriters and industry professionals with knowledge to manage and protect their work.
Creative Economy Week brings together stakeholders from across the arts and cultural sectors to discuss the development and sustainability of the creative industries.
