SA: Funky Qla concludes Dark or Durban series with New EP

The EP opens with ‘Isono’, featuring Zeh McGeba, which presents a raw exploration of love and heartbreak. It is followed by ‘Mamezala’ with Zee Nxumalo, in which a man addresses his mother-in-law about a partner lost to a party-driven lifestyle. The tone shifts on ‘Unyaka’, featuring Dlala Thukzin, celebrating friendship and the joy of dance, before moving into ‘Phone’, a tension-filled track with Sino Msolo and Nobantu Vilakazi that delves into deception and nightlife. The energetic ‘Bang Bang’, produced in collaboration with Argento Dust, builds on the EP’s danceable momentum, and the closing track, ‘Point Road’, offers a gritty homage to one of Durban’s most notorious streets.
Funky Qla’s narrative approach frames the EP as a cohesive story that traverses love, loss, temptation, joy and the pulse of Durban’s nightlife. “Dark or Durban 3 is both an ending and a statement,” the artist said, reflecting on the series. “It showcases my growth, depth, and vision as I step toward the next era of my music.”
The final chapter of the series highlights Funky Qla’s skill in balancing emotional storytelling with dynamic production, combining local collaborations with international influence. The EP is now available on all major streaming platforms.
