Classics on Turf brings SA’s premier classical music to Durban
Durban will host the latest edition of Classics on Turf, South Africa’s acclaimed fusion of classical music and lifestyle luxury, on 27 February 2026. This marks the first time the event will be staged in KwaZulu-Natal, expanding a series that has previously attracted attention in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Msaki will be performing at the event.
The Durban showcase forms part of the nationally recognised Classics on Turf series, presented in partnership with Telkom. The event has quickly become a platform for cultural storytelling, combining world-class music performances with sport-inspired elegance. Organisers say the expansion to Durban positions the city as a strategic destination for high-value audience engagement and premium brand alignment.
Musically, the Durban edition will feature award-winning singer, songwriter, and cultural icon Msaki, whose genre-defying sound and lyrical depth have earned her international acclaim. She will perform alongside the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra (KZNPO), one of the country’s leading orchestral institutions. The orchestra will be conducted by Kutlwano Masote, a respected conductor and cellist, whose artistic direction promises a seamless integration of classical excellence and contemporary African storytelling.
“I’m thrilled to bring my music to a stage that celebrates not just classical tradition but the richness of African artistry. It’s an opportunity to connect with audiences through emotion, heritage, and sound.”
The event has a history of hosting some of South Africa’s most revered musical figures, including vocalist Judith Sephuma, whose past performances have lent the series both credibility and prestige. Organisers emphasise that Classics on Turf caters to a curated audience of business leaders, entrepreneurs, creatives, diplomats, and cultural influencers, blending luxury, music, and lifestyle.
Founder Zwelibanzi Mntambo said the Durban edition reflects the brand’s ongoing mission to merge cultural heritage with contemporary African excellence. “From Soweto to Durban, Classics on Turf is about creating a platform where music, tradition, and lifestyle intersect. Durban offers a vibrant, sophisticated audience and a venue that embodies the prestige and refinement we aim to bring,” Mntambo said.
The 2026 event will take place at Mount Edgecombe Country Club, a venue chosen for its historic significance and reputation for elegance. Organisers describe the edition as a curated cultural asset, designed to provide both musical enrichment and meaningful engagement for sponsors seeking to connect with South Africa’s most influential audiences.
As Classics on Turf continues its national expansion, organisers signal that future editions will maintain the same focus on classical excellence, contemporary African artistry, and luxury lifestyle experiences.
