Bio
Grace Kaki Awo Ocansey, known to fans as Kaakie, is one of Ghana’s leading dancehall artists, celebrated for her vibrant performances and distinctive voice. Born on March 28, 1991, Kaakie grew up surrounded by music, often singing along to her favorite tracks and performing karaoke versions of the songs she loved. Her passion for music eventually led her to Stars of the Future, a popular Ghanaian reality TV singing competition, where she made a strong impression before finishing fifth. It was through this platform that she connected with renowned producer JMJ Baby (Joshua Raphaelson), who signed her to Xtra Large Music, launching her professional career.
Kaakie is not only an artist but also a scholar. She completed her basic education at St. Martin De Porres Basic School in Dansoman and continued to Achimota School, where she was active in the Scripture Union. She later earned a BSc in Midwifery from the University of Ghana and went on to complete a Master’s degree at Anglia Ruskin University in 2019, showing her commitment to education alongside her musical career.
In her personal life, Kaakie celebrated a traditional marriage on January 2, 2020. Over the years, she has earned numerous accolades for her music, including Reggae and Dancehall Artiste of the Year and New Artiste of the Year at the 2013 Ghana Music Awards, as well as Best Female Vocalist at the BASS Awards. She was also nominated for Best Promising Female Artiste at the 2016 KORA Awards and Best Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year in 2017, cementing her reputation as a dynamic and influential figure in Ghanaian music.
