Abel Selaocoe
Bio
Born in 1992 in Sebokeng, Johannesburg, Abel began learning cello in Soweto before earning scholarships to St John’s College and later the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. His BBC Proms debut in 2021 catapulted him onto the global stage.
Signed to Warner Classics, Abel fuses cello with vocals, improvisation, and African rhythms. His album Hymns of Bantu (2025) highlights his storytelling approach. Known for his electrifying live performances, he speaks and sings in English and Sesotho, bridging cultures through music.
