Ntando

Born Ntando Bangani on 16 October 1981 in Nelspruit, South Africa, Ntando is a prominent Afro-pop and Afro-soul musician known for his expressive vocal style and melodic songwriting. Raised in Kagiso in Johannesburg’s West Rand, he developed an early passion for music through church singing and family performances. His upbringing played a formative role in shaping the smooth, emotive sound that would later define his professional career.

Ntando launched his recording career in the early 2000s and achieved breakthrough success with his debut album Kwantu (2003), which reached platinum status. He followed this with Imvelaphi, a highly successful project that went triple platinum and earned major accolades, including “Song of the Year” for Dali Wam at both the Metro FM Awards and the South African Music Awards. His third album, Uhambo Lwam, also achieved platinum status, enabling him to tour across South Africa and internationally. These early releases positioned him as one of the most influential voices in contemporary South African soul music.

After a period marked by label disputes and personal setbacks, Ntando re-emerged in 2017 with his seventh studio album Mayibuye under Muthaland Records, marking a significant comeback in his career. His continued output, resilience, and commitment to authentic Afro-soul expression have solidified his legacy within the South African music landscape. Today, Ntando remains respected for his ability to blend emotional depth, cultural influence, and musical craftsmanship across a career spanning more than two decades.
