Workers wanted for media and creative work placements at the MIAF
The Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) invites applications from young, passionate, and unemployed individuals interested in gaining valuable work experience through the Foundation’s Work Placement Programme.
Ideal candidates are enthusiastic about music, arts, media, and research, and eager to contribute to the growth of the African creative sector.
This opportunity forms part of the National Employment Facility for the Creative Industries in South Africa (NEFCISA) — a MIAF-led national initiative that creates jobs for the common good within South Africa’s creative economy.
Successful applicants will join MIAF to support the organisation’s core operational areas, including website and content development, research and data management, communications and social media, and community engagement and outreach. Participants will gain hands-on experience, contribute to meaningful cultural projects, and work alongside experienced professionals shaping Africa’s creative industries.
Key responsibilities
Depending on skills and placement, participants will:
- Support documentation and art promotion, including creating videos, photography, and other media for social platforms.
- Moderate content on the Music In Africa website.
- Research and write artist, venue, and organisation profiles.
- Support website content editing, uploading, and metadata tagging.
- Assist with event listings, fact-checking, and artist outreach.
- Help build and maintain music-industry databases.
- Contribute to newsletters, interviews, and online articles.
- Participate in community and music-sector engagement activities.
Candidate profile
Ideal candidates are enthusiastic about music, arts, media, and research, and eager to contribute to the growth of the African creative sector. Applicants should be able to communicate clearly in English (knowledge of French is an advantage), work comfortably with computers and digital tools, and demonstrate reliability, creativity, and commitment.
Applicants with experience or studies in arts, communication, journalism, marketing, IT, or cultural studies are preferred.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this programme, applicants must:
- Be currently unemployed and seeking work.
- Be a South African citizen or hold a valid work permit.
- Be aged between 18 and 50 years.
- Not be enrolled in another public employment programme (e.g. EPWP, CWP, NYS).
- Be available to work a minimum of 7 days per month for a period of up to 10 months.
- Be willing to undergo induction and role-specific training.
Placement period and wage
- Placements will run for 10 months, from November 2025 to August 2026, under the NEFCISA social employment model.
- Participants will work a minimum of seven days per month and receive a monthly wage.
- Additional training and mentorship opportunities will be provided through MIAF.
