Nigeria: Godwin to release debut album Atonement on 10 October

Centred on themes of love, forgiveness, and reflection, Atonement serves as a personal and spiritual body of work for Godwin. The title track features a vocal sample from a choir once led by his late mother, anchoring the song’s emotional core.

Speaking about the single, Godwin said the track “expresses the sentiment of forgiveness towards those who have wronged us: to truly love someone, it’s necessary to let go of past hurts.”

The official music video, directed by Godwin himself and filmed in Kaduna, includes an appearance by the same choir sampled in the recording. The visuals combine musical performance and cinematic storytelling, a hallmark of Godwin’s multidisciplinary approach.

In a separate video shared on his social media platforms, Godwin reflected on the song’s meaning and the inspiration behind the album.

Atonement marks a new phase in Godwin’s artistic journey. His earlier work, including Home for COLORSxSTUDIOS, introduced him to international audiences, while Abeke, a collaboration with German production team KITSCHKRIEG, showcased his range. His track Broken reached the Top 10 on APC Nigeria and Spotify Viral 50 Nigeria, and Blood for Blood was featured during the Gladiator II premieres in Germany. More recently, Call Me strengthened his Afrobeats credentials as he opened for Tems on her European tour.

Godwin’s growing profile has drawn attention from media outlets such as Clash Magazine, 1883 Magazine, BBC 1Xtra, and COLORSxSTUDIOS.

To celebrate the release, Godwin will host an exclusive listening session in Kaduna on 27 September, with digital access available for fans unable to attend in person.
