West Night Publishing expands into North America via Cleerkut deal
African music publishing company West Night Publishing has entered into a sub-publishing agreement with Cleerkut Royalty, a North American-based music rights administration company founded by industry veteran Ms Cheryl Potts.
- West Night Publishing CEO Seidu Iddrisu.
The deal seeks to extend West Night Publishing’s reach into the US and Canadian markets, providing enhanced publishing support and revenue opportunities for African artists and songwriters.
Cleerkut Royalty, led by Potts, an expert in music law and technology, brings decades of experience in rights management and royalty administration. The partnership will enable West Night Publishing’s catalogue to receive robust representation, improved royalty tracking, and monetisation across North America.
“We’re excited to work with Cleerkut to bring African music to wider audiences in North America,” West Night Publishing said in a press statement. “Their expertise aligns perfectly with our mission to support artists globally.”
The new deal follows West Night Publishing’s recent European expansion with Back2da Future Music Ltd, further solidifying its international footprint as a dynamic player in global music publishing.
Speaking to Music In Africa, West Night Publishing CEO Seidu Iddrisu shared insights into the strategic decision behind the partnership. “Our analytics showed strong performance of our catalogue in North America, but we lacked proper local representation to maximise revenue and rights protection. Cleerkut’s specialised focus on the US and Canada makes them the ideal partner to close this gap.
“Cheryl’s deep understanding of copyright frameworks ensures legal integrity across jurisdictions, while her tech expertise enables scalable and data-driven royalty solutions. Through Cleerkut, she’s helping bridge the gap between legal infrastructure and modern technology to give African creators the tools and insights they need to thrive globally.”
For artists signed under West Night Publishing, the deal offers several tangible benefits including increased revenue through proper territory registration, more accurate royalty collection from US/Canada streaming and broadcasting, new sync licensing opportunities through Cleerkut’s local industry networks and improved copyright protection in key North American markets.
Iddrisu added: “Together, Cleerkut and West Night Publishing will empower African talent with the tools, knowledge, and global reach needed to compete fairly on the world stage, transforming local success into global impact.”
