The record, unveiled under their newly established publishing outfit Room 308, is the third single off their forthcoming collaborative album 308, following the success of earlier releases ‘Rudisha’ and ‘All My Dreams’.
‘Zama’ explores the emotional rush of falling in love and the sense of security it brings. Built around live guitar instrumentals by Benjamin Kabaseke, the track fuses Afropop and soul to produce a gentle, melodic ballad. Produced by Dillie, the track brings out the distinct strengths of both artists: Calvo Mistari delivers introspective, poetic verses, while Naiboi complements the track with a memorable chorus, enhanced by the sultry vocals of Amileena Mwenesi.
The accompanying music video, shot in Dallas and Houston, Texas, was directed by VJ One, adding a visually rich backdrop to the emotionally resonant track.
“‘Zama’ was just us “vibing” about the feeling of being in love,” Calvo and Naiboi said in a joint statement. “That first spark when you realise you’re starting to fall for someone, it’s such a beautiful moment. This is our first joint single in a while, and it reflects the global sounds we’ve been exploring, especially with Afrobeats influences.”
Their creative reunion marks a new chapter in their musical journey, influenced by their recent relocation to the US and exposure to new sonic landscapes. Following a period of personal growth, dedicated to family, studies, and self-reflection, the duo is now reigniting their careers with renewed energy and purpose.
Looking ahead, Calvo confirmed that they are currently working on a series of joint EPs while also pursuing individual projects. Both artists have recently released solo singles, Naiboi’s ‘Ananitaka’ and Calvo Mistari’s ‘Olivia’, each offering a preview of their evolving sound and artistic direction.
