Lo Squared
Bio
Lo Squared is the creative identity of Lonwabo Kosi, a South African DJ, producer, and curator based in Johannesburg. His work is shaped by more than a decade of engagement with music, grounded in listening, preparation, and a deep respect for cultural context.
Raised in a musically rich environment influenced by jazz lineage, Lo Squared’s relationship with sound began early through listening, discipline, and repetition. These foundations continue to inform his approach to both music-making and performance, where preparation and intention are treated as essential parts of the creative process rather than optional additions.
Lo Squared’s practice extends beyond individual output and is deeply collaborative in nature. He values working alongside other artists, producers, and culturally aligned brands to create spaces and narratives that reflect shared values and collective experience. Collaboration, for him, is not transactional but conversational — a way of building meaning through dialogue, trust, and mutual respect.
Alongside DJing and production, Lo Squared has contributed to South Africa’s music ecosystem through long-form curation and audio platform-building. His work in radio and sound production includes the creation of original shows and technical roles that emphasised structure, care, and continuity.
This ethos is most clearly expressed through the Lo Squared Appreciation Mix Series, a long-running project dedicated exclusively to music produced by South African artists. Each mix centres a single producer or creative voice, offering focused listening and proper context rather than exposure-driven compilation. The series functions as both a platform and an archive, documenting contemporary South African sound through attention and care.
As a producer, Lo Squared works through consistency and immersion, allowing sound to develop organically across cohesive bodies of work. His music reflects restraint, narrative flow, and an emphasis on depth over immediacy.
Across all facets of his work, Lo Squared is guided by a commitment to collaboration, cultural care, and long-term contribution. The practice continues to evolve through shared creative projects, thoughtful partnerships, and listening-forward performance environments that honour both the music and the people behind it.
