SA: Timeless Festival adds more artists to line-up
UK-based music promoter The Playground has added more artists to the line-up that will perform at the Timeless Festival in Elandskloof Farm, Cape Town, South Africa, from 10 to 12 March 2023.
- German house duo Booka Shade will perform at Timeless Festival in Cape Town, South Africa, next year.
They are Grammy-nominated US electronic producer Tycho, two-time Grammy-nominated Norwegian duo Röyksopp and Berlin-based house duo Booka Shade. They join local artists Sun-El Musician, Culoe De Song, Caiiro, Kid Fonque, Enoo Napa, Ryan Murgatroyd, Lemon & Herb, Jullian Gomes, DJ Zinhle and Jazzuelle as well as international acts Christian Löffler, Parra For Cuva, and Grammy Award-winning French music group Deep Forest.
Other confirmed artists include Sébastien Léger (France), Eelke Kleijn (Netherlands), Dominik Eulberg (Germany), DJ Pierre (US), Sainte Vie (Mexico), Joris Delacroix (France), Robert Babicz (Poland) and Vicky Butterfly (UK).
“The Playground in the UK has always been recognised for delivering outstanding line-ups and this is an important aspect of what we are bringing to South Africa,” The Playground founder and director Warren Morris told Music In Africa. “Each artist has been carefully considered according to tempo and style so as to take the audience on a journey from start to finish. Tycho is world recognised for being the ultimate sunrise and sunset artist whilst artists such as Booka Shade and Eelke Kleijn will be picking up the pace later in the evening.
“With three stages across three days, there is a vast amount of talent that needs to be filled across the weekend and this doesn’t include any of the theatre or performance artists. We hope that with everything we are devising, we will deliver some of the best shows South Africa has seen so far.”
Morris said preparations for the festival are at an advanced stage, with the production team already on the ground.
“We have a big focus on the development of our installations and production, so the company has now moved into a warehouse space to facilitate all of this. It’s an incredibly exciting move which will allow us to set up a studio to be able to livestream sets in the run up to the show as well,” he said.
Apart from entertainment, the festival will create employment opportunities for music industry professionals.
“We are now employing eight full-time staff in South Africa and growing the core team in South Africa further,” Morris said. “The festival will be employing nearly 150 part-time staff and artists altogether which will be a big boost for the music industry in South Africa. We are also currently scouting talent with the potential to launch acts internationally so there is great potential for the industry to grow further in South Africa. This on top of all of the support South Africa is already getting from international brands such as Mixmag and Boiler Room, the future looks bright.”
