Call for registration: Free piano lessons
Irish education platform Alison is offering interested learners three free courses in piano lessons, including Online Piano Lessons for Beginners, A Guide to Mastering the Piano – Accompaniment and Improvisation, and Piano Lessons: Learn to Play Songs Fluently.
The courses are aimed at anyone with an interest in music including students and teachers. The beginner course comprises 50 ‘easy-to-follow’ videos, and will help teach participants how to play a piano. The expected time to complete the course is about five to six hours.
Attendees will learn to recognise the notes on the keyboard and play music from the start. The model will describe many different techniques and methods of playing piano including the elements of improvisation. The course will use a free software programme called Cakewalk, as well as free plugins that provide real instrument sounds.
It will also touch on the theory of music, providing participants with everything they need to understand about the way music works, including notes, staves, music notation, among other elements. A tool called The Circle of the Fifths, which illustrates musical scales, will also be introduced.
A Guide to Mastering the Piano – Accompaniment and Improvisation, participants will learn how to master music works as a language such as how to accompany and improvise on the piano. Candidates will need a basic theory of music and playing a piano. The duration of the course is 6 to 10 hours.
Piano Lessons: Learn to Play Songs Fluently, meanwhile, will teach learners simple steps to turn their tedious and mundane piano lessons into easy and delightful sessions. Alison says they will “discover how inversions can transform seemingly complex songs into simple ones that are enjoyable to play on your piano.” The latter segment of the course will teach composers how to compile and create their own songbooks. The course will take about 2 to 3 hours tpo complete.
Interested learners can sign up for the courses here, here and here.
