Bio
Dangatye is a pioneering indigenous Xhosa rapper hailing from Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth), Eastern Cape, South Africa. He first showcased his raw talent in 1997 at the Shell Road to Fame competition, marking the beginning of his journey in hip-hop.
He rose to prominence in 2004 with his debut single "Nobathembu", which received widespread airplay across numerous radio stations and established him as a key voice in the local scene. In 2005, Dangatye released his debut album Nguban' Igama, featuring several hit singles that dominated airwaves and solidified his reputation for authentic, culturally rooted lyricism.
Throughout his career, he has collaborated with respected artists including H2O, MXO, JayStash, and the late Lundi Tyamara. Dangatye has graced stages alongside South African legends such as MDU, Malaika, and Mzekezeke, as well as international acts like Busta Rhymes and Fatboy Slim.
A trailblazer in Xhosa-language hip-hop, Dangatye continues to record new music and perform actively in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape regions, inspiring generations with his enduring contributions to South African indigenous rap.
