Call for applications: Technical Production Lead for ACCES 2021 conference
The Music In Africa Foundation seeks to contract an Technical Production Lead for the ACCES 2021 conferencing division. This position will run for two months (October to November). The MIAF is strictly looking for a person who has relevant experience and a proven track record in similar positions.
The Music In Africa Conference for Collaborations, Exchange and Showcases (ACCES) is a pan-African platform for music industry players from across the continent to exchange ideas, discover new talent and accelerate the shaping of the vibrant music sector on the continent. ACCES is held in a different African city every year, attracting delegates from more than 50 countries in Africa and beyond. The event takes place over three days, offering a dynamic programme that includes training workshops, panel discussions, presentations, live performances, networking sessions, exhibitions and visits to key music industry hubs in the host city.
The Technical Production Lead will provide practical and management support to the MIAF team, panellist and technical crew throughout the production process, and supervise onstage and backstage activity during the conference to make sure the show goes off without a hitch.
ACCES 2021 is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 25 to 27 November 2021. The event will comprise three days daytime conferencing and evening showcasing (live performances) at multiple venues.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate technical needs for the conference with support from the MIAF team.
- Technical production of conference (overall oversight).
- Sourcing of technical equipment (AV, lighting, etc.).
- Managing suppliers and contractors.
- Backline collation (work with team and talent).
- Talent liaison on tech riders/requirements.
- Assist in procurement of services negotiation of supplier, etc.
- Panellists communication and liaison.
- Liaise with set designers to achieve required look and feel (stage, set, exhibitions, networking areas and other spaces).
- Overseeing build and onsite delivery.
- Site(s) preparation and management during supplier load-in and load-out.
- Perform site visits.
- Planning, design and delivery of event with support from the MIAF team.
- Management of allocated crew and assistants.
- Post-event analysis.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- A tertiary qualification in events management and production and/or related qualification and/or at least five (5) years’ experience in similar positions.
- Experience working in the music or cultural sector.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in a similar role.
- Experience in working within a multicultural and international environment.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills in English.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word is a must.
- Ability to use an international network of contacts for commercial purposes.
- Demonstrable expertise in managing projects within tight deadlines.
- Strong work ethic and attention to quality and detail.
- Ability to solve problems and successfully engage with appropriate technical and internal resources.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects through highly effective organisational skills.
- Be able to work flexible hours to accommodate event schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to organise and coordinate complex, high-profile functions and logistical activities by using specific principles and practices for event planning and coordination, from pre-production to production and post-production.
- Great people skills and ability to work in a team is a must.
