Ghana: Western Music Awards slated for 7 August
The organisers of the Western Music Awards (WMAs) in Ghana have announced that this year’s edition will be held on 7 August.
Now in its fifth iteration, the annual event is put together by Westline Entertainment to recognise artistic feats in the Western Region of Ghana. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the ceremony will be held at the Best Western Plus Atlantic Hotel with limited attendees, and will be broadcast virtually.
Trophies will be presented across 26 categories. Three individuals, including media mogul Wilson Arthur, will receive honorary awards. Last year, highlife singer Fameye walked away with the coveted Artist of the Year prize at the event. Other previous winners include Kofi Kinaata, Ayesem, Aya Ramzy and DopeNation.
“This year’s edition is of keen interest to us because for five years we have had the unflinching support of the showbiz players and the people of the Western Region,” WMAs public relations officer Nana Kwesi Coomson said.
The Awards will be broadcast across WMAs’ social media handles, with three local radio stations livestreaming the programme.
