Call for applications: Artist residency in the US
The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Nebraska, US, is accepting applications for its international residency programme between 7 September and 11 November 2022.
Since 1981, the institution has provided artists worldwide with time, space and resources to conduct research and create new work. The independently driven atmosphere and communal environment encourage creative growth, experimentation, confrontation of challenges and cultivation of new ideas. To date, more than 1 000 artists have participated in the residency programme.
All selected residents will receive a private live/work studios complete with a kitchen and bathroom as well as a $1 000 monthly stipend. Due to the limitations of B2 visas (touring/visiting), international artists are eligible to receive reimbursement of qualified expenses, such as airfare, ground transportation and meals.
For those applying as sound artists, the workspace includes:
- A studio room for mixing and recording. It is equipped with various instruments, amps, microphones, and digital hardware and software for recording and mixing.
- A live room where artists can rehearse, experiment and mic up instruments.
Requirements
Applicants should submit the following:
- Up to 10 media samples of work completed within the past five years. Images (max 5MB each), video (max 250MB each), audio (max 30MB each), PDFs (max 10MB each) and models (Sketchfab). They may also link to media from YouTube, Vimeo and SoundCloud.
- CV with two references.
- A brief statement about the applicant's creative and intellectual interests as well as a description of how they plan to utilise the time and space if selected for a residency, like continuing working on current projects, experimentation, conducting research, reading, writing, etc. (max 500 words).
