Evans Mapfumo
Bio
Evans Mapfumo is a Zimbabwean singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe.
Evans’ music explores African-centered themes and is performed with his band, Kiat Afrika, which he founded in 2009 in Cape Town, South Africa. His sound is a fusion of Zimbabwe’s traditional folk rhythms with genres such as reggae, soft rock, and jazz, performed on marimba, mbira, guitars, and drums.
Evans Mapfumo performed at the 19th Edition of the Sauti za Busara Festival in February 2022, where he shared the stage with Msaki (South Africa), Sjava (South Africa), and Mampi (Kenya), among others. His festival appearances also include the Grahamstown Arts Festival 2012 in South Africa, the Harare Beer Festival 2014, HIFA 2015, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup Fan Festival in Cape Town, South Africa, where he performed alongside the late Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi and Freshlyground.
His released works include the singles Maneta (2016, re-released in 2024), Torai Nguva (2020), and Ndanga Ndakarasika (2021). In December 2022, he released his debut album, Afamba Apota. Evans is looking forward to releasing two new singles this month, April 2026.
Evans holds a Bachelor’s degree in Ethnomusicology and specializes in music performance, music education, and the making of marimba and mbira instruments.
