Call for scores: Saxophone competition in the US
New York-based music organisation Vox Novus is calling on composers around the world to submit one-minute scores for its Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame project with Drew Hosler, which will premiere online towards the end of the year.
Drew Hosler is a US saxophonist and music curator who has commissioned and premiered more than 100 pieces by award-winning composers from all over the world, including Andrew Mead, Alexis Bacon, Benjamin Attahir, Jamie Sampson and Marilyn Shrude.
Only works for tenor saxophone, which do not exceed one minute will be considered. Music that strives to explore and extend the expressive and technical capabilities of the instrument is encouraged.
Submission guidelines
- Works should be composed specifically for this call.
- All pieces must be premieres.
- Multiple submissions are not accepted. Composers should send their best work.
- Composers have to register with Music Avatar for free to submit their work online.
- Works can be submitted here.
- After logging into Music Avatar, composers should select the opportunity named Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame with saxophonist Drew Hosler and press the ‘submit’ button to begin the submission process.
- Composers need to provide a maximum of a 50-word biography and 50-word programme notes.
- Composers should upload scores in PDF format (they are also encouraged to upload an audio file).
- Composers should include a dedication to Drew Hosler on the score.
- Performance notes should be included in the score.
The submission deadline is 30 April.
Results will be announced via the Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame official website.
“Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame gives a variety of new music by living composers to audiences hungry to hear what is being created in today's music scene,” reads a statement. “The Fifteen-Minutes-of-Fame project has featured more than 75 musicians/ensembles premiering the works of over 1 000 composers in New York City. The project has presented works across the United States and 10 other countries.”
