Call for applications: Pro Helvetia residencies 2022
Pro Helvetia Johannesburg is calling on cultural practitioners from Switzerland and Africa to apply for residencies taking place next year.
The residencies can last up to three months. Cultural practitioners from Switzerland may apply for residencies in southern, East, West or Central Africa. Conversely, cultural practitioners from southern, East, West and Central Africa can apply for residencies in Switzerland.
“We have strong existing partner networks in the DRC, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Zambia and Madagascar that can host visiting Swiss arts professionals, and developing networks in East, West and Central Africa,” the Swiss arts council said.
“In countries outside of these existing networks, applicants would need to give some consideration in their proposals to potential host partners and local arrangements for their residency. We are aware that the global COVID-19 pandemic has given rise to great uncertainty. We will do our utmost to create a suitable framework and conditions to support you in your activities and your process.”
Who can apply?
The following individuals are eligible to apply:
- Artists.
- Curators..
- Cultural intermediaries.
- Cultural practitioners.
Cultural practitioners from the following African countries are eligible to apply:
- Angola, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, DRC, Djibouti, Eritrea, eSwatini, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Cameroon, Kenya, Comoros, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Zambia, Sao Tome and Préncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Chad, Uganda, Central African Republic and Zimbabwe.
Selection criteria
Applicants will be vetted based on:
- Convincing track record.
- Context-related motivation.
- Sufficient knowledge of English.
- Concrete exchange project with a lasting impact.
Remuneration
Selected artists will receive the following support:
- Accommodation.
- Advice and practical support.
- Costs of travel, insurance and per diem expenses.
- Production costs can be covered to some extent, upon request.
