David Andish
Bio
David Andish is a Zambian recording Jazz guitarist, music producer, and educator born on 18th October 1984 in Lusaka, Zambia. His work focuses on integrating Zambian traditional music with contemporary Afro-pop, jazz, and gospel. He is known for a rhythm-driven guitar style shaped by local musical traditions and modern production approaches.
Early Life and Background
Andish was born into a family of five in Lusaka. He attended Kasamba Primary School in Matero before moving to Makeni, where he lived with his father, a financial auditor. He completed his primary education at Makeni Ecumenical Centre Primary School in 1998. Following his father’s death later that year, he returned to Matero to live with his mother.
He continued his education at Jacaranda Basic School, where he developed an interest in music. He later attended Munali Boys Secondary School and completed his secondary school education at Namwala Secondary School in Namwala.
In 2000, at the age of 17, he began playing the guitar after joining Praise Christian Centre in Lusaka. He has continued to serve at the church under the leadership of Bishop Dr. Edgar Ng’ambi.
Andish later enrolled at the University of Zambia, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration and Development Studies.
Music Career
Andish began working professionally in music in 2003, focusing on production and live performance. In 2005, he joined his first professional band led by Jojo Mwangaza, where he worked as a rhythm guitarist and sound technician. He later relocated to Ndola, Zambia, and worked as a music producer for two years.
He has since contributed as a guitarist and producer to numerous recordings across gospel, jazz, Afro-pop, and soul. His credits include Hill St. Soul, El Mukuka, Mag 44, Kiki, Roberta, Mweshi Mulusa, Northmead Mega Choir, Trinah, Mutamula Mwale, Prince Siame, Rachael, BJ Ngosa, Kings Malembe, Aaron Kaleshi, Pastor Gain Hankope, Medoreen Besa, Musumadi, Sakala Brothers, Suke Chile, Ras Willie, among others.
Touring and Performances
Andish has toured and performed with various artists across Zambia and parts of Africa. These include Jojo Mwangaza, BJ Ngosa, Roberta, The Heritage Brothers, Prince Siame, Joyce Mwanza, DMK, Matthew Ngosa, Pompi, Bobby Ricketts, Chef 187, and Slap Dee Njoya Tee, Ras Willie, among others.
He has also shared stages with international artists such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Earl Klugh, Brian McKnight, Joe Thomas, MiCasa, Zahara, Afro Red, Zonke, Benjamin Dube, Uncle Rex, and James Sakala.
Education and Research
Andish is the creator of Zambian Guitar, an online educational series that documents and teaches guitar approaches rooted in Zambian and African traditional music and their application in contemporary styles.
