Benjamin Webi crowned Airtel’s Trace Music Star competition

Benjamin Webi has emerged the winner of the Kenyan edition of the Airtel Trace Music Star competition that has been running since October last year. The announcement was made at the Enashipai Resort, Naivasha on Saturday, 17th Jan ’15. He bagged the grand prize of Ksh. 2.7 million together with an iPhone 6 Plus. Phyllis Mwihaki emerged second, bagging Ksh. 100, 000 and an iPhone 6 Plus, while Trina Mungai was third, taking home Ksh. 50, 000 and an iPhone 6.
Webi will now represent Kenya on the next phase of the competition, battling it out with the winners of the Malawi, Madagascar, Sierra Leone, Zambia, Tanzania, Nigeria, Senegal, Burkina Faso, DRC, Congo, Chad and Gabon chapters. They will be battling for the top prize of 30, 000 Euros and a recording deal with Kon Live. The top prize also includes a distribution deal Universal Music Group and a mentorship with American star, Akon.
