Tendai Mhlanga
Bio
Tendai Mhlanga is an Afro-Fusion artist based in Harare, Zimbabwe. His music is an eclectic blend of sounds that is soulfully authentic, and his performances are raw and dynamic. His music has been showcased on JiveTV, Classic 263 radio and ZiFM Stereo and he performs at both public and private functions. He is a songwriter, vocalist, guitarist and pianist who relishes the art of creating and performing, and is an artist who truly believes in the power of music to heal, to unite and to be a force for good in the world.
Born into a musical family in Harare, Zimbabwe’s capital, he grew up immersed in an diverse blend of both African and Western sounds and genres. His influences include everything from Zimbabwean traditional Mbira music, South African Township Jazz, West African Griot music, Nigerian Afro-beat and High Life, to American Jazz, Fusion, Pop, and RnB. Some of his long list of favourite artists include Jimmy Dludlu, Stimela, Salif Keita, Angelique Kidjo, Fela Kuti, George Benson, Joe Sample, Earl Klugh, Eric Johnson, Michael Jackson and Prince.
He released his debut album, ‘Anthems and Love Songs’, in 2018, which was a collection of both vocal and instrumental creations which showcased his abilities as both a songwriter and a composer. He has recently released his EP titled 'Moyo', a musical triptych which is an ode to love, which is available on all platforms.
