Bio
Siki Jo-An is a multi-talented artist born and raised at Kwa-Zakhele township in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Who started performing when she was only six years old. She is a Rhodes university Bachelor of Arts degree graduate, where she studied classical Music and Dramatic art studies. Siki Jo-An is known as the African Queen from The Voice South Africa, who sang Uqongqothwane also known as “The Click Song” by Mirriam Makeba. Siki Jo-An's video went viral and her life changed ever since, receiving recognition and praises from different countries across the globe.
Siki Jo-An music style is influenced by her theatre background, her upbringing in the dusty streets of Kwa-Zakhele Township, where there is a strong Xhosa culture. Drawing inspiration from icons she grew up listening to, the likes of Mirriam Makeba, Brenda Fassie, and Sibongile Khumalo. She describes her style of music as African Soulful music. Siki Jo-An is a classically trained singer who can sing all types of genres with a beautiful power range of vocals and a unique tone of her voice that she can manipulate with her singing techniques. She plays guitar, piano, djembe and Uhadi.
In 2023, Siki Jo-An released her debute album indepentantly. The album is titled "Chapter 30", it comprises eight songs and an interlude, weaving a narrative of the singer's life at 30. This album of original compositions drew inspiration from love, relationships, township life, and her Xhosa culture. For this project she worked with renowned producers such as the award winning Mjakes Thebe, James Frank Bassingthwaighte, Siyabonga Kitie Mkhize.
Since her experience on The Voice South Africa, Siki Jo-An has been making significant strides in the music industry. She has cemented her position as an African Singer, rubbing shoulders with, the late Ricky Rick, Zahara, Riana Nel, Ringo Madlingozi, Zwai Bala, Judith Sephuma, Lira, Vusi Nova, J Something, Lady Zamar, Lindelani Mkhize, Nelisiwe Sibiya, Unathi Nkauyi, Anele Mdoda just to name a few. Siki Jo-An has done major productions such as RMB starlight classic, Afrikaans is Groot, she sang at the Miss South Africa Finale in 2023. Siki Jo-An Sang the Newzeland’s national Anthem during the rugby game with the springboks in 2024. Siki Jo-An has recently finished a Cruise-Ship contract on a world cruise with Silversea Cruises, travelling Australia, Newzealand, Asia and North America. Siki Jo-An is an international brand as she has global audiences. She has produced and curated her own tours in South Africa, Tanzania, Rwanda, Mozambique and in Brazil, promoting African Music.
She has worked as a teacher sharing her music knowledge as a vocal coach and as school teacher, teaching arts, music, drama, directing choirs, Marimba Bands and event organiser for schools. She worked as a creative arts Teacher at Future Nation Schools and as The head of Music and Culture at Curro Waterfall.
