JB SELASSIE ~aka~ Fikre Selassie

Bio

Born John Brown Gordon in Parry Road Kencott., West Kingston Jamaica, Fikre Selassie (the Love of the Trinity) is his baptismal name given to him on becoming an Ethiopian Orthodox Christian. Fikre’s career history fits none of the stereotypes commonly attributed to Roots Music’s popular stars. Today, as reggae enjoys a renaissance of young conscious artists like Luciano, Richie Spice, and I-Wayne is definitely a sign of his times. Heavily influenced by his Christian faith he is uncompromising in saying, Jesus Christ, is everything to his life and music, and through this medium he intends to propagate his faith. He made his stage debut at the age of eight years old, at fourteen he began recording dub plates for a number of sound systems including Youthman Promotion and Echo Injection, to name a few. At the same time he sang in the dancehalls. In 1984 he recorded “Everything Is you Lord” on a White label then he later recoded “Can’t take no chance”. A few Years later he rerecorded a classic “Bucket Bottom” and he had a hits with Songs Such as “I Love My Woman”, “Every Knee Shall Bow,” “The Truth Will Set You Free”, “Look Upon the Sons of Man” and “Time For Love,” he created a backing Band called Shamara and from there went on to work with Connecting Routes where he released a single. Considered by fans and critics alike to be the premier of UK roots vocals of his generation, Fikre continues to fulfill the promise he demonstrated as a child. His debut Album “BLESSED IS HE” is presently unsigned but he is working at developing some interest with it internationally.
