Durella

Durella (Oluwadamilare Okulaja) is a Nigerian performer. Also known as ‘king of the zanga,’ Durella was born in Kaduna, a town in Northern Nigeria but grew up in Mushin, a suburb in Lagos. A dropout from the Lagos State Polytechnic, he met record label executives and got signed shortly after.

His debut album, ‘The King of the Zanga’ was released in 2008 and yielded the singles ‘In the Zanga’ and ‘Wiskolo Wiska’ among others. His genre he says is ‘commercial universal street music’.

Early in Durella’s career an issue was made of his similarities in style to D’Banj, with some taking his side in the debate. After Durella achieved some level of fame, the issue was dropped. He has, however, not been quite as popular as he was at the start of his career, a predicament blamed on his record label. He returned in 2015 with the song ‘808’. The song is taken from a forthcoming album, his fourth.
