Ayub Ogada

Bio

Ayub Ogada was a Kenyan Afro fusion artist with his principal instrument being the Nyatiti. He died on 1 February 2019.

He began his career in the early 1970s with the Black Savage band but his career fully kicked off in 1979 after he co-founded the African Heritage Band with the director of Pan-African Gallery, Alan Donovan.

In 1988 he was signed by UK based record label Real World Records. What followed was the recording of his debut solo album En Mana Kuoyo (Just Sand) in 1993.

This was his most successful album most of its songs were used in documentaries and film soundtracks such as I Dreamed of Africa (2000), The Constant Gardener (2005), Samsara (2011) and The Good Lie (2014), among others.

He was also an actor and featured in films notably Out of Africa (1985) and The Kitchen Toto (1987).
