Leonard Mapfumo
Bio
Born on 30 January 1983 in Harare, Leonard Mapfumo is one of the pioneers of Zimbabwe’s urban grooves music. He attended Kudzanai Primary School in Highfield and Mount Pleasant High School for his secondary. His passion for music began when he was doing his grade five. He began writing songs upon completing high school. He joined Galaxy Entertainment, a recording company owned by Delani Makhalima. He became popular in 2002 following the release of his track ‘Seiko’.
The song featured Roki. From then onwards, he began recording his music and has to date released four albums namely ‘R & L’ (2005), ‘Namapfumo’ (2007), ‘The Journey’ (2010) and ‘The Road to Israel’ (2014). Apart from his own music projects, he has worked with many artists namely Cindy Munyavi, McDee, Lazzy Tee amongst others. He co-owns a recording studio called 'Heshi Mfeshi'.
The recording stable is credited for identifying artists such as Shinsoman, Yaka and Yoz. He toured and performed in different African countries. In December 2012, he embarked on a tour to the United Kingdom (UK) together with Trevor Dongo and Maskiri.
