Garrick Van Der Tuin

I am a live event and studio sound engineer and consultant from Johannesburg, South Africa.
I am currently studying sound system design and optimization with the focus on large format sound system deployment. I am also serving as the live audio engineer for Lira and The Jaziel Brothers among others. I am a part time lecturer at The University of Johannesburg teaching sound design and recording for multimedia.
As a touring front of house sound engineer I have worked with such artists as Zamajobe, Stimela, Ray Phiri, Bombshelter Beast, Bongeziwe Mabandla, Sibongile Khumalo and Hugh Masekela.
I toured the world extensively as Hugh Masekela's sound technician from 2009 to 2015. I have also worked in some of the most prolific venues in the world whilst on tour with Masekela, namely Carnegie Hall, The Sydney Opera House, The Lincoln Centre, The Hollywood Bowl, The Walt Disney Concert Hall and The Royal Festival Hall.

Since 2014, I have been managing the audio for Gidi Culture Festival in Nigeria. I have experience as a live sound technician in all types of venues from clubs to classical venues and outdoor concerts.

As a studio engineer, I have worked at Manic Media under Andrew Smith, digital cupboard under Ian Osrin and was a resident engineer at Pyramid Rox studios. I currently run an audio studio which operates under the name Playsound with the focus on recording and mixing music albums and live performances as well as post production for film and television
