Call for applications: Pro Helvetia studio residencies
Pro Helvetia Johannesburg is calling on artists from southern Africa and Switzerland to apply for studio residencies taking place next year.
The Swiss arts council has opened the call to artists in the following disciplines:
- Music
- Literature
- Theatre
- Dance
- Visual arts
- Curation
- Festival organisation
- Design
- Interactive media
The aim of the residency is to find inspiration, establish networks and contemplate new projects and networks. Pro Helvetia will provide successful artists with a studio residency of up to three months. The opportunity will also give artists the chance to gain broad insight into a different cultural environment. In addition to workspace and accommodation, Pro Helvetia will provide coaching support and cover travel costs, insurance and per diem expenses.
The selection criteria include:
- A convincing track record.
- Personal artistic activity above and beyond a regional level.
- Context-related motivation.
- Adequate foreign language skills.
“We work with a network of organisations that can host residencies in different urban centres in Switzerland and across the southern African region,” the Pro Helvetia website reads.
“We look to customise each residency according to the needs of individual arts professionals as far as possible. Go the Residency Network page to find out more about these organisations.”
How to apply
- For residencies taking place in 2020, applications can be submitted until 1 March via the Pro Helvetia official website.
- Applications must be written in English.
