Bio
Savinnah, born Joy Ciru Achieng’ Ogai, is a fast-rising Kenyan pop artist from Nairobi celebrated for her enchanting voice, songwriting, and versatility. She began singing at 4 and composing at 15, officially launching her career in 2019 through YouTube covers and performing as a background vocalist. A multi-instrumentalist on piano and guitar, she studied music at Riara Girls High before pursuing BTec Music at Brookhouse, where she graduated with distinction—an achievement that earned her a newspaper feature spotlighting her talent. Her debut EP Pardon Me, produced by SoFresh, and her hit single Bad Mamacita ft. Ndovu Kuu cemented her as one of Kenya’s most promising new stars. In 2023, she became the first Kenyan artist signed by Universal Music Group without prior releases, a groundbreaking deal that expanded her artistry and industry knowledge. Alongside her solo career, Savinnah is also an accomplished songwriter, contributing to tracks such as Tonight by Nikita Kering, which was recognized in Rolling Stone’s Top 40 Songs from Africa 2024. Blending pop, afro-pop, hip-hop, and R&B, Savinnah uses her music to explore love in all its forms—heartbreak, passion, trust, and jealousy—while weaving in themes of women’s empowerment, positioning herself as a bold, diverse voice in the new era of African pop.
