Yola Semedo (born 8 May 1978) is a celebrated Angolan singer, widely recognised for both her early work with the group Impactus 4 and her successful solo career. Often referred to as the “Diva of Angolan Music,” she has built a reputation for her powerful vocals and emotionally resonant performances, with popular songs including Você Me Abana, Não Entendo, and Volta Amor. Her achievements include multiple accolades from the Angola Music Awards, as well as a nomination at the African Entertainment Awards USA.

Born in Lobito, near Benguela, into a musically inclined family, Semedo demonstrated her talent from an early age. She began performing as a child with Impactus 4, a group founded by her brothers, joining them in 1984 as both a vocalist and keyboard player. Her early exposure to live performance and musical collaboration played a crucial role in shaping her artistic development.

Yola Semedo gained international recognition at a young age, notably in 1985 when she received the Voice of Gold award at the UNESCO International Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria, presented by then UN Secretary-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar. She was later honoured as the Young Female Voice of Gold of Africa by the government of São Tomé and Príncipe, further cementing her status as a rising star on the continent.

Throughout her career, she has continued to evolve as an artist, transitioning seamlessly from group performances to a distinguished solo path. Her music blends elements of Angolan styles with contemporary influences, allowing her to remain relevant across generations. With a legacy defined by consistency, artistry, and cultural impact, Yola Semedo stands as one of Angola’s most influential musical figures.
