Bio
Eugene Kwame Marfo (born 1 February 1997), professionally known as Kuami Eugene, is a Ghanaian Highlife and Afrobeat singer, songwriter, and record producer. Signed to Lynx Entertainment and Empire Distribution, he is known for hit songs including “Angela,” “Wish Me Well,” “Ohemaa,” “Wa Ye Wie,” and many others. Kuami Eugene has received numerous accolades, including the Unsung and New Artist awards at the Ghana Music Awards in 2017 and 2018, the Most Promising Artist in Africa award from AFRIMA / Lynx Ghana, and multiple Ghana Music Awards wins in 2019 for Album of the Year, Producer of the Year, and Highlife Artist of the Year. In 2020, he was crowned Artist of the Year and Highlife Artist of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards.
Born to Alex and Juliana Marfo in Akim Oda, Ghana, Kuami Eugene developed a love for music at a young age, singing in church and learning to play the drums, keyboard, and guitar. He attended the Salvation Army Senior High School in Akim-Wenchi and later furthered his education at Ghana Telecom University.
His breakthrough came in 2016 when he participated in season 5 of MTN Hitmaker, a Ghanaian reality music competition, finishing third overall. Shortly afterward, he signed with Lynx Entertainment and began releasing hit singles. His 2017 song “Angela” reached one million views on YouTube, marking the highest for any artist on the label at the time and placing the song among the top ten in Ghana. He has also been featured on tracks like “Adwenfi” by DJ Vyrusky and Shatta Wale, and in 2018 released “Confusion”, a continuation of the story from “Angela,” followed by “Wish Me Well,” inspired by negative social media comments.
Kuami Eugene has performed at major events including Sarkodie’s Rapperholic Concert, Ghana Music Honors, December to Remember, and the 61st Ghana Independence Celebration Show at Indigo 02 in London. He has also appeared on international stages, including Oh My Festival in Amsterdam, the Afrobeats to the World concert at the PlayStation Theatre in New York, and Afronation in Ghana. In 2022, he released the single “Take Away” and performed at Afrochella in Ghana. Over the years, he has maintained his relevance with a steady stream of hit songs, including recent releases like “Monica,” “Canopy,” “Problem,” and “Showdown.”
