Phina Asa

Bio

Phina Asa is a Cameroonian-born vocalist and songwriter whose music carries both emotional depth and radiant spiritual strength. Now based between West Africa and Nigeria, she has become one of the key voices shaping the soulful, vocal-led current within Afro-house and global electronic music. With a sound rooted in storytelling, resilience and warmth, Asa’s singing is at once intimate and expansive — a voice that consoles, uplifts and gently refuses despair.

Her first experience performing to a large audience came at the age of ten while attending boarding school in Cameroon. From an early age, music was never simply entertainment for her; it was a means of communication, a way of transforming personal experience into shared feeling. Asa has often described music as a place of “commonality”, a light for those walking through emotional darkness. This commitment to honesty and healing runs through everything she creates.

In recent years, Asa’s profile has grown through her powerful collaborations with the Afro-house and organic electronic collective &friends, led by Sean Thomas. She features on the moving single “Dangerous” released via Hidden Hands, and on the collective’s milestone remix of Armin van Buuren’s classic “This Is What It Feels Like” through Armada Music. Her soaring delivery, supported by rich organic percussion and deep rhythmic texture, brings fresh feeling to the iconic dance track — singing of endurance, faith and quiet triumph over adversity.

Working with friends has also meant an artistic and personal journey. Asa has spoken openly about how trust, cultural respect and shared purpose allowed the collaboration to grow, especially in a context where African artists are often exploited by the global industry. Spending time together writing, recording and living as a creative community helped shape both the music and its message. The result is a sound that blends tradition, future-minded production and spiritual lyricism.

Though Afro-house was initially new territory for her, Asa has embraced it as another way to speak to the world. Her goals remain simple yet profound: to inspire, to communicate truthfully, and to honour the divine spark she believes lives within music. With more solo work on the way — including projects produced with &friends — her journey continues to unfold with grace and conviction.

Phina Asa’s voice lingers long after the last note fades — grounded, soulful and guided by purpose.
