Okello Max

Bio

Born in 1991 in the village of Kanyakwar, Kisumu County, Julius Okello McRymboh professionally known as Okello Max is a premier Kenyan singer, songwriter, and guitarist who has defined a new era of Afro-fusion by seamlessly blending modern urban rhythms with traditional Dholuo soul.

His musical journey began in his uncle’s Catholic church choir and was further shaped during his childhood in Lamu, where exposure to Swahili culture and Taarab music deeply influenced his melodic, "lover boy" vocal style. After refining his performance skills with the Moi University band and finishing as a runner-up on the talent show Talanta Mtaani, he officially broke into the mainstream in 2019 as a background vocalist on Sauti Sol’s global hit "Extravaganza". Since then, he has evolved into a powerhouse artist with chart-topping hits like "Kiss," "Nakufa," and the 2025 viral sensation "Taya," leading to his recognition as a "growing sensation" by Spotify and a prominent creator at the 2025 TikTok Awards for Sub-Saharan Africa.

Following the July 2025 launch of his critically acclaimed 15-track sophomore album, Healing, Okello Max continues to headline major stages across East Africa, including the Blankets and Wine Festival.
