BlackMyth

Bio

BlackMyth is a singer-songwriter whose sound bridges generations, weaving together the urban energy of Hip Hop, R&B and Afropop with the cultural depth of Xitsonga traditional music. His voice, melodic, soulful, and authentic, carries lyrics in his mother tongue, Xitsonga, producing songs that inspire, heal, and motivate. With this fusion of contemporary beats and ancestral language, BlackMyth emerges as a distinctive voice among a new wave of South African artists committed to both cultural roots and creative innovation.

Born Matimba Andy Manganyi in Malamulele, Limpopo, Blackmyth is a dynamic singer-songwriter blending Hip Hop, R&B, Afropop, and Xitsonga traditional music into a powerful, melodic sound. Born and raised in Malamulele, a town where the majority of residents are Tsonga speakers, he was immersed in the rhythms, language, and heritage of Xitsonga culture from an early age, an influence that would later shape his artistic identity.

He began recording music in 2015, marking the start of a journey defined by experimentation and self-discovery as he learned to blend urban genres with the melodies and storytelling tradition of his roots. In 2017, recognising the need for a platform for emerging artists in his community, he founded The People's Party , now Malamulele’s biggest annual music event. The festival has grown into a cultural landmark, featuring household names such as Musa Keys, Aymos, and Frank Casino while giving rising artists a stage to showcase their talent.

BlackMyth’s debut project, Mfanaka Malamulele (2021), was followed by Son of Gaza (2022), which charted on Apple Music’s Hip Hop Charts (#15 SA) and featured production from legends like Ph Raw X and Yosen Tim. His creativity also extends into acting, he starred as Dasco in Giyani: Land of Blood Season 2, expanding his influence across entertainment.

Through The People's Party and his own musical evolution, BlackMyth has helped cultivate a creative community rooted in cultural pride and modern expression. Today, he stands at the intersection of tradition and innovation. By singing in Xitsonga and embracing global sounds, he is redefining what it means to be a modern African artist, one who honours heritage while carving out a unique contemporary identity. His journey reflects a broader movement of young creatives reclaiming identity, shaping culture, and building spaces for authentic representation.
