Mshayi

Mshayi, born Madoda Mbeki in Cape Town, is a South African DJ, producer and entrepreneur known for his influential role in shaping Cape Town gqom. He began his career through local community events and rapidly gained recognition for his dynamic sets and instinctive understanding of dance culture in the city’s townships.

His national breakthrough came as one half of the duo Mshayi and Mr Thela. Together they created a powerful partnership that elevated gqom to new heights. Their debut album Make Cape Town Great Again became a major success and earned platinum certification. The album produced several standout tracks, including “iParty”, which later featured in the Netflix series JIVA!. Their sound played a central role in establishing the identity of Cape Town gqom on mainstream platforms.

Alongside his work as an artist, Mshayi is also an entrepreneur and label owner. Through Shaya Records he has played a key role in developing young producers and DJs and in creating opportunities for emerging talent across Cape Town. His leadership combines creative direction with business development, allowing him to contribute to both the artistic and structural growth of the local music scene.
