Urban Folklore

Founded in 2019 and based in Rabat (Morocco), Urban Folklore is an instrumental music band that has fun mixing different ethnic and modern music. This simple idea created a fertile ground for an unbrided creativity unrestrained by the standard codes of musical genres.
The concept of the band can be understood in two ways:
-The mix of modern and folkloric music.
- The imagination and emergence of a « city life » folklore.
This duality gave birh to a unique aesthetic driven by the individualities of the artists that compose the band.

In its first year, Urban Folklore presented re-arrangements of Jazz standards mixed with exotic rythms, sounds and scales; even during this period, the goal has always been original composition. Since its genesis, the band has benefited from the generosity of many patrons, that gave out rehearsal and composition spaces, this has enabled the band to hone their skills and explore different aesthetics, find an original sound and perfect it.
Since then, Urban Folklore has had the opportunity to record its compositions in a Live session setting in Morocco’s most prestigious studios _ Studio Hiba and EAC- L’boulevard_ as well as perform in Morocco’s biggest Jazz festivals such as Tanjazz and Jazzablanca on the same stage as artists such as « Mulatu Astatke » or « Majid Bekkas ».
In 2022, the band enters a residency in the luxurious hotel « The source » in Marrakech to compose the last tunes that completed a first album that only needs to be recorded.
