Banky W

Bio

Banky W (born Olubankole Wellington) is an R&B singer from Nigeria.

He was born in the United States to Nigerian parents, and later moved back to Lagos, Nigeria with his family at the age of five. After completing his secondary education he moved to New York to attend the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on a scholarship, soon after obtaining a degree in engineering.

Banky W came onto the music scene with his 2003 EP 'Undeniable' followed by 'Back in the Building' in 2005, 'Mr. Capable' in 2008, 'The W Experience' in 2009 and 'R&BW' in 2013. During this period he became one of Nigeria's most successful pop acts, with multiple studio albums and several awards.

Back in Nigeria, Banky W established the Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E.) record label as a platform to get his music to his fans. Bank W later signed the popular Wizkid, and shaped his career for a few years before Wizkid left the stable.

After the release of his 2013 album 'R&BW', Banky W rapped on a number of songs, and he teased fans with a vague idea of a rap album. By 2016, he appeared to have gone back, releasing the solo 'Made for You' and two duets with singers Nikki Laoye and Chidinma.
