Often called the spiritual heirs of the legendary band Tinariwen, Tamikrest uses its platform for political advocacy. Led by primary songwriter Ousmane Ag Mossa, the band's music highlights the cultural identity and struggles of the Kel Tamasheq (Tuareg) people. Their unique instrumentation pairs heavy electric guitars and bass lines with traditional West African djembe rhythms and nomadic poetry
