Bio
LysJoy (Nancy Kandala Matshiza) is a Belgian-Congolese singer-songwriter of Tshokwe heritage, descending from a royal lineage of this Central African people. Growing up between African roots and a European environment, she has developed a unique musical universe that bridges cultures, emotions, and traditions.
Her music blends Afro-soul, jazz harmonies, and Congolese groove, creating a warm, organic sound that feels both intimate and vibrant. Singing primarily in Lingala, she explores universal themes such as resilience, feminine strength, spirituality, joy in adversity, and the deep connections that unite people.
Her debut album Fololo, co-written and co-produced with pianist and producer Piotr Paluch, was released in 2024. The 13-track project offers an elegant fusion of African rhythms, jazz harmonies, and soulful sensibility, supported by refined musicianship and heartfelt storytelling. The album celebrates cultural identity and the power of women while inviting listeners on a musical journey between Africa and the West.
On stage, LysJoy stands out with a radiant presence and a natural ability to connect with audiences. Surrounded by musicians rooted in jazz and Afro-influenced music, she delivers vibrant performances where groove, emotion, and improvisation meet.
Highly active on social media, LysJoy has also built a growing audience through her Lingala reinterpretations of international and Congolese classics. Several of these videos have reached hundreds of thousands of views, bringing together a community that spans Europe, Africa, and the global diaspora.
