Bio

Decibel was born Daniel Mazhindu in the mining town of Shurugwi, Zimbabwe but grew up in Masvingo. He is one of the country’s popular dancehall artists who pioneered the urban grooves genre in Zimbabwe. His single ‘Nakai’ left a mark in the music scene.

His career in music began when he was in high school. Back then, he would perform on variety shows and win prizes. In 2002, he graduated with a degree in biochemistry at the University of Zimbabwe. He also did sound engineering which he finished in 2011. In 2000 while at university, he decided to take his as a serious career. This prompted him to become a backing vocalist for a Bulawayo-based reggae band called Motsi Uruka. In 2002 prior to graduating, he signed with Galaxy records – a then recording company which was owned by Delani Makhalima. While at Galaxy Studios, he recorded his debut single 'Nakai'. This was followed by another single titled 'Chido'. He also did a video for his second release which did very well on YouTube.

In 2004, he launched his debut album ‘What Kind of World'. It was produced by Country Boy Records. It carried songs such as'What kind of World' and the controversial 'Madhara'. In 2006, he relocated to the UK and UK released ‘Ndikati Hello’. The song featured UK-based duo Bkay and Kazz. In 2007, his track 'Madhara' was barred from all ZBC channels because of its lyrical content which were deemed offensive. In 2013, he released 'Mukuru Ndiani'. In November 2014 he released two more singles titled ‘Ndofara sei?’ and ‘Paita Mabiko’.
