David Kalilani

David Kalilani was born on 26 December 1982 in Malawi. He grew up in Blantyre and Mzuzu before joining his mother in Blacksburg Virginia, the U.S. in 1995. He grew up listening to music from different genres such as country music, rap, reggae, traditional Malawian music and the eighties pop culture. On Sundays, he would listen to artists such as Bob Marley, Madonna, and Naughty by Nature or Wambali.

His first single ‘Body Snatcha’ was recorded when he was fifteen. At 18, he joined a music group called Real Elements. The group is one of the pioneers of rap music in the country. David has featured on two songs on the ‘Tricka Technology’. The album was released by A-Skillz and Krafty Kutz from England. He later developed his own genre called ‘Nyambo’ and has since released some of the following albums ‘Spirit Filled Spit Kickaz Volume 1’ (2007), ‘Spirit Filled Spit Kickaz Volume 2’ (2009) and ‘The Lost Tapes’ (2012).
