Stomp your feet to the sounds of AFRICA
“It all started with a sound check, Sizwe AKA Takamia_music worked as a stage runner and technician for various artists and venues in the entertainment industry, with a career that spans some 20 years behind the scenes, he had a deep seethed love for music and constantly critiqued everyone he worked with as an engineer, it wasn’t until he saw Chicco and the Gypsys that he realised that the voice in his head was actually telling him that he is meant to be on the stage singing and not behind a mixer criticising everyone. That was all it took to convince that he needed to get his first acoustic guitar”

A vibrant, exciting and stylish song writer, vocalist and acoustic guitarist, deeply
-rooted in African culture and style (Reggae and Afro-Soul) "everyday stories of the ordinary African". From Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni. Having cut his teeth at the “behind the scenes of the Entertainment industry as a stage hand, Sizwe worked his way up the ladder to become various head of departments sometimes puling 48hr shifts as is often the case in the industry.

It was inevitable that he would eventually start his own band which he called Balance De Band, the band lasted for 4 years performing every month from 2014-2018. And he had grown the band from being an acoustic band (with just two vocals, acoustic guitar and percussions) to being a full 8 piece band (drums, bass guitar, lead guitar, acoustic guitar, four vocalists and a narrator “rapper”), he’s vision was an African culture and style, there were heavy elements of afro soul, hip hop and reggae fused together. The band went to perform to an 18000 strong crowd at the reconciliation day picnic event of 2017.
He played on numerous stages around Gauteng, the most memorable amongst those being the Reconciliation Day Picnic at Carnival City hosted by Thiko Events where he raised the curtain for industry greats like Cassper Nyovest, K.O. and Nothende, he also played at Soweto Theatre (Soweto Arts and Crafts Fair), Sawubona Music Jam and the Nali’ilanga Series produced by Jozi Unsigned and also the started a series of live music shows in the neighbourhood of Vosloorus called Kasi Concerts were he performed as a resident monthly “ sharing the stage with industry giants like Selmor Mtukudzi, Samthing Soweto, Ntsiki Mazwai B.O.Y. Wonder, Hendrik Monyeki, Radio 123 and so very many more”.
Initially of the now defunct Balance De Band he started and pushed the band to heights that superseded his own expectation by going all the way to record the bands two singles, this was an eye opener for Takamia and the possibilities were endless from there and we now join him in his quest to conquer souls in an African way as Takamia_Music.
We launched officially Takamia on the 2nd of June 2019 at Monate Fella Roadhouse Vosloorus which was an invite only event...
